Three Basic Makeup Tips for All Kinds of Eye Shapes

Our eyes are the windows to our soul, and they speak about our character more than any of our words and actions. Thus, if you want to make a long and lasting impression, then you should catch your audience’s attention with just one look in the eye.

Don’t know how to get the “appealing eyes” effect? Then let your makeup do the dirty work for you.
Here are the basic tips on applying makeup on the eyes, no matter what shape they are:

1. Begin with a strong foundation. Foundation is the base of all other applied makeup on the skin, and the eyelids are no exception. You begin applying eye makeup by dabbing foundation on and around the eyelids. Foundation is a must since it holds all the other makeup you will apply on your eyes, and as well conceal the eye bags and dark circles that surround your soul’s gateways.

Apply foundation using a sponge, and draw circles on the eyelids, in an outward growing motion. Make sure there are no empty spaces left, especially on the creases, as they can cause the foundation to break apart later when it has dried on the skin.

2. Work on the shadows. The shadow shades can transform your eyes and give you a whole new look but they too can turn you into a makeup disaster. To avoid this, pick the shades that match both your skin and your dress. If you want a more formal and reserved eye makeup, then use shadows that match your dress directly, only in different, usually lighter shades. If you want more laid back style, then go for earth and nature tones; for loud themes, go for glittery shades paired with solid primary colors, such a blue and yellow matched with gold or silver.

Begin with the lighter shade. Using an applicator, dab the shadow from the inner corner of the eye, going outward and until it covers the whole eyelid like a half-moon. Then, using the same applicator, add the darker shade, this time on the creases. Spread the shade until the creases are covered, to make a poppy effect on your eyes. The darker shades work on giving your eyes their full shape, while the lighter tones provide the character of your eyes. It’s through the shadows that can make you look sweet or fierce, a damsel in distress or a femme fatale.

3. Finish by drawing the lines. Now, in this section, get hold of your eyeliner which should be sharp enough to draw a straight arc on your lash line. This line provides a higher definition of the eye’s shape which the eye shadow cannot provide. Draw the arc also on the lower lash line to balance the effect. Remember, the arc should be straight-a crooked or broken line will only smudge the eye makeup and create a big mess. When drawing the lines, begin with the inner corner of the eyes, ending of course at the outer tip.

When applying mascara, start by placing the brush just below the upper lashes, and begin wiggling or shaking it slightly against the lash hairs. Maintain this consistent motion until you reach the tip of the lashes, ending with a fuller, thicker effect. Do not overcoat the lashes; they will only smudge and smear on the surrounding areas of the eyes.

When giving life to your brows, just follow the path they have already made. Your only goal here is to give the eyebrows a fuller look, since they are already thin due to plucking or threading.
